Engineering services

Solidcure has a huge experience in designing and manufacturing custom insulating parts, and much more. If you don’t have the time, capacity and knowhow to design the mechanical parts that are needed to fix or protect your electrical equipment we can help you.

We design and manufacture:

  • Custom insulating parts
  • Connection boxes
  • Cable boxes
  • Frames to support insulators, busbars, bushings
  • Test equipment

Challenge:
Old cables should be removed from HOLEC-COQ switches (now Eaton). The old copper interfaces should be connected to standard type C bushings.

Solution:
Solidcure designed a connection box that is mounted over the inferfaces after removal of the old cables. Since the space in front of the box is limited we developed an epoxy part with three type C interfaces casted in one block. After making the internal connections, the box is filled with an insulating mass or transformer oil.

Result:
By using this type of connection box, the down time of the system is reduced from several days to 2 hours by using this solution

Challenge:
3 old Wall bushings had to be replaced. A standard wall bushing did not fit, since the width of the wall was higher than normal since an extra layer of fire resistant material had to be added.

Solution:
Solidcure designed a complete new porcelain wall bushing with integrated conductors and connection frame. Solidcure provided the 3D-drawings so it could easily be fit into the exsisting drawings.

Result:
The customer saved a lot of money, and the installation took only a few hours without any adapations needed.

Challenge:
New cables have to be connected to existing power transformers. The cables are connected via cable lugs to the transformer bushings, and need to be be protected by a box. The cables could also be connected to the box itself via bushings. In that case the cables can be removed. The box could be filled with transformer oil.

Solution:
Solidcure designs and manufactures the boxes in steel or stainless steel. Thex box can be premounted and foreseen with all necessary joints.

Challenge:
A new switch had to be connected to the internal distribution cabinet of a factory via an intermediate connection box containing Current Transformers. The connection box had to be demountable due to the small entrance into the building.

Solution:
Solidcure designed and manufactured the box in stainless steel, containing the necessary busbars, clamps and insulators.

Challenge:
A customer wanted to have a test frame to be able to test insulating sticks.

Solution:
Solidcure studied the standard and developed an easy to handle platform, including the busbars, clamps, insulators and feet.

Challenge:
A customer had problems with flash-overs via the feeding of compressed air to his disconnectors. The flashovers happened via the tubes of the feeding.

Solution:
Solidcure integrated the tubes into an insulator. The compressed air could be feeded at the bottom of the insulator and taken off again at the top of the insulator

Design and Manufacturing of custom parts

Solidcure has many years of experience in designing and manufacturing custom parts in epoxy, silicone, porcelain. Based on an idea, a sketch, a sample, we can make a new part. All needed moulds are manufactured in house. Solidcure has a machining and welding shop to  manufacture all necessary tools needed for the manufacturing of your part.

Upgrading of the KEMA high voltage lab

Client Highlights

From 2015 to 2016 , KEMA LABS was conducting a lab extension project in Arnhem, the Netherlands, in which the present set of four generator lines was expanded by another two generator lines. This increased the total available short-circuit power to 15000 MVA (50/60 Hz) and a maximum single-phase short-circuit power of 7500 MVA at 50 Hz. CURRENTS OF MORE THAN 1000000A ARE POSSIBLE NOW !

Challenge:

The KEMA High-Power Laboratory (HPL) in Arnhem, the Netherlands is a globally operating, independent laboratory for testing and certification of medium- and high-voltage components used in the electrical infrastructure. HPL is equipped with four generators (SCG6-9), each capable to generate a three-phase short-circuit power in the test bay of 2500 MVA (50/60 Hz). The generators can be run in parallel to achieve a maximum three-phase short-circuit power of 10000 MVA and a maximum single-phase short-circuit power of 5.000 MVA. Currents up to more than 1Mio A are possible now ! Using configurable transformers, the generator’s output current and voltage can be adapted to suit the rated voltage of the equipment under test. In the scope of the extension project, four new configurable transformers have been installed. If all the existing and new transformers are connected in series, a configuration results which can deliver single-phase power up to 550 kV, 13 kA, referenced to earth.

Solution:

Engie Fabricom has designed and installed the high and medium voltage connections. Engie engaged Solid-Cure for the design and manufacturing of the insulators and the clamps for the medium and high voltage part of the lab and for the disconnectors. The infrastructure and the insulators are designed to withstand extreme mechanical forces.
